Support for day-to-day leader communication

Line-of-Sight offer individual feedback to leaders at companies or organisations on how clear they in practice communicate their objectives in day-to-day communication.

Our focus is on the coherence in a leader’s rhetorical leadership in a number of situations. We examine if the rhetorical leadership is coherent as regards to the supervisors, who refer to the leader; as regards to all employees; as regards to fellow leaders - and in the leader’s dialogue with his or her leader.

Our feedback to the leader concentrate on, how expedient the leader with his or hers rhetoric leadership support the objectives in which communication plays an important role for the achievement of the objectives, and which the leader considers to be the most important in the short run.

Feedback after observation

Line-of-Sight gives feedback on the basis of observation of a leader’s rhetorical leadership in a number of different situations.

Firstly we at a meeting with the leader discuss which objectives that is most important to the leader in the short run. And after a sequence, which typically besides the initial meeting will consist of observation on three different occasions, the leader at a final meeting gets feedback on the quality and consistency of his or hers rhetorical leadership.

The situations, which we will observe, can for instance be the leader’s rhetoric leadership at meetings with colleagues at the same level in the organization as the leader; the leader’s dialogue with his or her leader; and the leader’s direct dialogue at large meetings with employees – or, if it play an important role for the overall picture, the leader’s rhetoric leadership at meetings with external stakeholders.

Our focus is on the leader’s oral leadership, and we involve communication from other channels to the extent it is relevant, e.g. written communication.

An operational concept for rhetorical leadership

Line-of-Sight’s concept for rhetorical leadership is an operational tool, which a leader can use directly to improve his or hers rhetorical leadership. At the same time our concept for rhetorical leadership can be applied to a group of leaders at the top of an organisation to get a picture of, how the total communication from the group of leaders is. In this connection individual sequences with each members of the top management will be supplemented with an analysis of the internal communication from the group of top leaders as a whole.

Experience tells us that the communication from the individual members of the top management in most successful companies or organisations in practice not is coordinated.

Line-of-Sight’s concept for rhetorical leadership is a both efficient and effective tool suitable for gathering operational insight in, where communication from the top management differ and where it is coordinated.
